Jan Snel and Medexs BV already have a wealth of experience in the medical, healthcare and hospital construction sectors in the Netherlands. Now Interfurn has now joined the group, bringing its specialised ventilation and engineering skills, and enabling the creation of a formidable team providing cost-effective, energy-efficient offsite modular construction solutions to the UK healthcare and hospital sector.
What is modular building?
Modular building is a construction technique in which large parts of the housing are manufactured in the factory. These are modules that we assemble on the construction site into a single building, where we provide piping, electricity and everything that is involved in that specific building.
Modular construction, therefore, goes a step further than prefab construction. In prefab construction, only individual elements such as concrete floors or facade panels are produced in the factory. Modular construction involves designing and constructing complete modules that, when brought together, form one building.
For example, hospital ward rooms or operating theatres leave the factory equipped with all the facilities required (wall and floor finishes, electrics, pipework etc). These are then connected and finished at the client's location to become a complete medical building, ward or even an entire hospital.
